Beyond Research is a company limited by guarantee, which is wholly Zambian owned and incorporated under the Companies Act of 1994. Our objective is to enhance access to justice in Zambia.

At the core of all that we do, is justice. Justice is fairness. Therefore we Investigate. Find. Act. All in pursuit of Justice.

Investigate

On behalf of the Human Rights Commission of Zambia, we investigated the conditions of incarceration and prison services in Zambia

Report Pretrial Audit Zambia 2011

Find

Some of our findings on Zambia are that:

There has been a steady reduction in the average time in police detention from 36 days in 2006 to 8 days in 2011

The non-selective charging of suspected offenders contributes to the bottlenecks in the case flow management system

Although the Intestate Succession Act entitles widows to inherit from the estate of their deceased husbands, some ethnic groups still follow customary law and thus do not permit widows to inherit

There is a dire need to train law enforcement officers in human rights law and knowledge

GBV cuts across class and creed; and efforts to curb it must include counselling offenders

Act

We have trained police officers in Lusaka Province and Southern Province in human rights law and developed tool kits to enable women access, utilise and own land

ZLA Manual

On the 10th of May 2018 BR played host to professionals in the construction industry at the 1st ever University of Zambia Conference on Ethics and Intergrity in Construction with the support of UKAID and The British Academy. Find the photos in our gallery.
